About COVID Shield

COVID Shield is a joint venture between Grafika Limited and George Mudford & Sons Ltd. Both companies suffered a complete cessation of business when the Coronavirus pandemic became established. Grafika is a midlands-based graphic design and marketing consultancy and their long-time clients, George Mudford & Sons Ltd, are a long-established marquee company first setup in 1832.

Mark Ramsden, Managing Director of Grafika, immediately looked for ways in which both companies could help to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and realised that with Grafika’s marketing skills and Mudfords’ ability to fabricate PVC products there was a possible opportunity.

On 30th March, COVID Shield was created and a website quickly put together to promote and market a number of items to help protect key workers and the general public against COVID-19.

One of the first contracts came from Bagshaws auctioneers in Bakewell who are the leading agricultural auctioneers in the Midlands and, as such, their role in keeping the supply chain through to the supermarkets and meat industry was seen to be very important, and a need was identified to keep the markets open.

COVID Shields were installed in the public areas where farmers and buyers make their transactions, and also in the auction rings where auctioneers and assistants found it very difficult to keep to the 2m social distancing rule.

COVID Shield has enabled Bagshaws to continue working in this difficult time and, importantly, keeps their key counter staff and auctioneers as safe as possible. The Bagshaws solution involved creating a bespoke COVID Shield system along with portable roller mechanisms to move around the office and be placed in the auction rings where required.

In addition to large-scale protection screens, COVID Shield also produces an easy to use, cost-effective and flexible face mask that anybody can use.

The face masks are very easy to wear and can be folded up should you not be in close proximity to other people, then very simply ‘flicked down’ to protect yourself and others when necessary.

Grafika and Mudfords are constantly looking for other ways in which our skills can help to beat the Coronavirus pandemic and get the country and all our businesses back on an even keel.

If you have any ideas about how we can help with our marketing skills, design and creativity, and our PVC plastic, welding and fabrication plant then please contact Mark Ramsden or Henry Mudford directly.

Good luck to everyone and stay healthy.
